Snowflakes made from Indium

SILICON LAMBDA MODULE – 1536 x 512 pixels

By running a LAMBDA silicon module at 2000 frames per second in front of an X-ray tube, we made a movie of flakes of scrap Indium foil in free fall. In real time, the flakes take only 60 ms to cross the detector – the movie is slowed down by a factor of 67. This high-speed X-ray imaging can be used to study rapid changes in samples.
