Our detectors in brief

Our AMBER product range is closely related to LAMBDA. It is a next-generation pixel detector based on Medipix3 technology, primarily aimed at electron microscopy. It is sensitive to individual electrons, with effectively noise-free performance, and it offers a high frame rate of up to 23,000 frames per second (with no readout deadtime) and a small pixel size of 55 µm. AMBER is designed for in-vacuum operation, with different detector sizes and mounting options available.

AMBER 750k bottom-mount

LAMBDA is a next-generation pixel detector for X-rays, based on Medipix3 technology. It is a photon-counting detector, making it effectively noise free, and it offers a high frame rate of up to 23,000 frames per second (with no readout deadtime) and a small pixel size of 55 µm. It is available in a wide variety of sizes and configurations for different applications, and can be equipped with different sensor materials to allow high detection efficiency even at high X-ray energies. The system also has “colour imaging” capabilities, where X-rays hitting the detector can be divided into two energy ranges. Developed by DESY for use at the PETRA-III synchrotron, the system is designed for high reliability, and has external triggering and gating capability for synchronisation with the rest of the experiment. It can be easily integrated into common beamline control systems.

SPARTA is the laboratory size implementation of an AGIPD-based camera. The Adaptive Gain Integrating Pixel Detector (AGIPD) is an X-ray imager, originally designed for the European XFEL, the world’s most powerful free electron laser. It can take images at a rate of 6.5 million frames per second, in a burst of up to 352 images. By using a novel adaptive gain amplifier design, it combines an equivalent noise of less than 1 keV when detecting single photons with a dynamic range of more than 104 photons of 12 keV. With a weight of less than 10 kilograms it is a compact yet extremely powerful high-speed X-ray camera for your setup in the 3–15 keV range.
